Joseph Soul, a singer originally from Maui, auditioned with Bob Marley’s “Is This Love”, inspiring coaches Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton to hit their buttons for him and fight to have him join their respective teams.
Joseph was born with music in his blood and grew up on the islands of Hawaii with the given name Joe-Sol Keoni Ha’aheo Okalani Malaikini. His grandfather was a respected musician and inspired him to learn to play instruments. At 12, Joe got involved in DJ’ing and by 13 was getting booked to DJ for local events. As he got older, he started winning competitions and later traveled the world as DJ Audissey with residencies in Las Vegas and Los Angeles. In 2015, he decided to pursue a career as a soul artist and began performing under the name Joseph Soul. He now plays 300 shows a year and recently got engaged to his fiancée, Nicole.
Joseph is known for being a versatile music aficionado and has been in the music industry for well over 15 years. He is a seven time Na Hoku Hanohano award nominee and has produced hit songs such as “Take You Higher” by Positive Motion and “Tell Me” by Tenelle. He also mastered Maoli’s 2010 album “Rock Easy”. Joseph Soul is a music mastermind and has written, produced, engineered and mixed his first album almost entirely on his own.
Soul represented Hawaii and Hawaiian values throughout his time as a contestant with gracious posts on social media.
“Thank you all for your love and support,” he wrote Monday night on Facebook. “It’s been an incredible journey on @nbcthevoice and I hope mine doesn’t end here but even if it does, the opportunity to hopefully bring joy and peace to those who may need it has been such a blessing to me. Couple that with the chance to show my home and culture to the rest of the world and really I’ve already won.”
